I was recently given the opportunity to attain and read a book called 10-10-10 by Suzy Welch. I love books that try to inspire us to do better in life. The concepts in this book definitely gave me a new outlook on things.
Have you ever wondered if the choices you have made in life were the right ones for you? Have you had new issues come up that you just sat and wanted to cry because of the choice you had to make? I know I have. I think it is natural for us to wonder what our lives would look like if we had made different decisions. I never regret decisions I make. There is no point in that, what is done is done but you can change the future.
Suzy Welch outlines a few decisions she had to make in her life and how she felt as if her life controlled her rather than the other way around. She finally realized that she needed to look at things a little differently. She decided to think of things according to their affects on now, the near future and the distant future. This is where the title of the book comes in.
First, look at the decisions you have to make now. How will they affect you right now, within the next 10 minutes? Then, think of how they will affect you in the near future, within the next 10 months. Finally, think of how they will affect you in the distant future, in 10 years.
Some decisions may be better made by seeing them in these three timelines. Some things that maybe inconvenience us now, in the present, may pay off in 10 years. We need to take control of our lives rather than having our lives control us.
