Halloween Candy Warning!

There is a brand of candy that was recalled for containing Melamine.  This is a chemical that is highly toxic and has caused several deaths to children and some adults as well.  The candy is Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coin candy imported from China.  There have been several articles in the news and abroad about Melamine content in China imported milk products.  Please beware.  This is a real scare.  You can check out details of the story here, learn about Melamine here, & another article about recent baby formula scare here.

My Baby's First Birthday Party!

The reason I have been scarce in posting this weekend is because my little guy had his first birthday party on Saturday. We took extra time getting everything together, visited with family in town from Florida & Tennessee and spent extra time with our little guy. I made a special cake for my little guy to get himself and dig into that went with the All Star party theme. It took a really long time but it was neat to see the finished product!Most of today was spent putting together all of his new toys & trying them out with him. He went from one toy to the next and played hard today. He loves the fact that he can walk now and takes advantage of it whenever possible. He got a Little Tikes Coupe from his daddy & I and do you think he rides IN it? Not a chance, he would rather walk & push it! He also got a push toy from his Grandma that he had a blast with outside. You probably wonder why I never show my little guy's face. I just feel that the internet is not safe for children. With all the internet predators out there, I just don't want to give them anything extra to work with. I want to keep my kid's identities private.

• This item was in their ad for $4.99 with a $4.99 RR making it FREE. The items didn't ring up the right price or give a RR. The manager came over, gave my money back and gave me the items for FREE!

Simply "Cycle" Saturday

I know that today is Sunday and I am just now posting "Super Cycle Saturday". See the post My Baby's First Birthday Party for the reason I am behind on posting, its a good one!

Last week I talked about how to get the best use out of Old Phone Books. This week I would like to touch on left over newspapers.

Many of us receive or purchase the Sunday paper every week for the coupons. What do you do with the rest of the paper? Some of you may have a recycle program where you live. Why not put the papers to better use. Here are some things that I have come up with to use the papers for.

1. Puppy Potty Training: If you have a new puppy who is not yet potty trained, use it as potty paper. You could go out and buy those expensive potty training pads, or you could use old newspaper. Just put a few layers of it down on the floor or kennel where your puppy stays (be sure to use the black and white pages over the colored because they soak liquid better). It is easy to clean up and soaks up liquid very easily. Most veterinary clinics use it as flooring in their kennels.
2. If you have cats, line the litter box with old newspaper. This will absorb extra liquid and soak up some of the smell. What I do is line the litter box with old newspaper, sprinkle some baking soda and then the litter. This prolongs the life of the litter and cuts down the odor.
3. If you are looking for a retro decoration for a room in your house, cover an old shoebox with it. Get some Modge Podge paste from Walmart and take your old newspaper and adhere it to the shoe box. You can do this with any old item that needs a little sprucing up. A friend of mine refinished an old table top of hers like this and it looked great!
4. Wrap gifts with it. Wrapping paper tends to be very expensive. What a better way to show that you recycle than to use your old newspaper as wrapping paper. You can personalize it by wrapping your gifts and writing on it with a Sharpie. If it is for a birthday party, use the brightest sharpies you have and draw balloons on the paper and write Happy Birthday in bubble letters. It is original and lots of fun to design.

My mom visited Walmart and got these for FREE for me (or my hubby, really) with $1/1 MFG!

We went to Rombach's Farm to get Pumpkins which turned out to be way too expensive ($12 or so!) but these gourds and squash were reasonable and I was excited. My little guy loves Butternut Squash! I paid $4 for everything in the picture. Can't beat that!
